I think it’s only fair, after talking so much about my focus on writing my first book, to make a post with a description of what the freaking book is actually about. I’ve mentioned publicly that is a lesbian romance book, but I don’t think I’ve given any details besides that.
It’s not because it’s a big mystery. The explanation is much easier. I just forget people actually don’t know what it is about.
I have so many ideas in my head, and I’m constantly thinking about plot points, and what I will do next, that I really forget other people don’t live in my mind and don’t know all the things I’ve been thinking about.
Now, the other point is, how do I explain it in an easy-to-understand way? I know when the time comes to promote my book I should learn to do that, so this will be good practice. I will do my best to make a good summary.
Now, to go a little more in detail. I vaguely based the idea for it on my relationship with my fiancée. Not exactly the characters itself, or the personalities. But when I was coming up with the idea, it was inevitable for me to think of us.
One of the most interesting and romantic things about our relationship is that we got to know each other through our words, thoughts, and beliefs first. We spent months talking to each other, without even knowing each other’s names. We meet online, as you can guess, but not on a dating app.
The way we could learn from each other was something that captivated both of us. We have different cultures, speak different languages, unique life experiences that we could talk about but the same base principles and goals. Our relationship has been long distance for almost seven years now. So those were some core things I wanted to explore in a romance book:
- Falling in love online
- Cultural differences/learning from each other
- Dealing with long-distance
But I didn’t want it to be us. That would be a little weird. I will probably take some things from our own experiences, but they are not us. I also wanted it to have something else. Something additional. So I made it a celebrity AU. One of them is a celebrity, even if the other doesn’t know about it. At least not at first. It opened so many possibilities, interesting things to explore; I fell in love with the idea immediately.
That’s how Daniela, or Dani, as she likes to be called, was born. She was the first one to come to my mind. She was born in Colombia, like me, but grew up in Spain. Tennis is her life. Since she was a kid is the only thing she has focused on. She is confident, kind, but can be mean when she has to be. She longs for love. Her lifestyle, traveling all the time, only in contact with her team of trainers, publicists, other tennis players. Has made it hard for her to find someone.
Ari is still in college, struggling to decide what to do with her life. She has dated no one in a while. Not since she got her heart broken. She thinks love makes her weak, and she doesn’t want to be weak again. You could say she is more cynical. But the truth is she is a big softie inside, she is just afraid of getting hurt. However, it will be impossible to resist the pull Dani has over her.
